Al Ahly celebrate record 40th Egyptian league title

Al Masry’s failure to beat El Entag El Harby on Monday night hand the Egyptian Premier League to the country’s most decorated club.

Al Ahly are champions of Egypt for a record 4oth time after nearest rivals Al Masry were held to a 0-0 draw by El Entag El Harby on Monday night.

The previous day, Al Ahly had done their bit with 1-0 win over Enppi thanks to a goal by Ayman Ashraf.

The Cairo giants are Egypt’s most decorated club with 36 Egyptian Cup wins and eight CAF Champions League titles to go with their record league tally.


In a message published on the  club’s official website, Al Ahly manager Hossam El Badry spoke of his pride at wrapping up the title at this early stage.

“It was a tough season and I am very happy to win the title with six weeks remaining,” he said. “I want to thank all the players and the coaching staff for all their efforts.” .
