A Marcelo brace led Al Nasr to 2-1 win in the Bur Dubai derby against Al Wasl at Zabeel Stadium in matchweek 18 of the Arabian Gulf League.
As a fairly quiet first half came to a close, Al Wasl goalkeeper Sultan Al Manthari came out to collect a cross from the left wing but instead caught Rashed Mohammed’s and Al Nasr were awarded penalty kick that was converted by Marcelo into the top right corner give his side the lead at the break.
AL Wasl equalised when substitute Hassan Ali controlled a low cross from the right-hand side and volleyed an unstoppable shot in the bottom left corner.
Ten minutes later, Rashed Mohammed cut across from the right side only to be fouled inside the box to earn the Blues a second penalty that Marcelo successfully converted.
This result sees Al Wasl stuck on 32 points in third place, six points behind leaders Al Ain and five behind Al Wahda. Al Nasr, meanwhile, move level with their rivals but stay behind on head-to-head record having lost the reverse fixture 0-2 at home.
