Euphoria greets Saudi World Cup qualification

From world leaders to Japanese fans, congratulations poured in for the victorious Saudi team.

On a raucous night in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia confirmed automatic qualification to the 2018 World Cup thanks to a 1-0 win over Japan, who had already booked their places in Russia next summer.

Fahad Al Muwallad’s superb 63rd minute strike ensured delirious celebrations at the final whistle, and across the world supporters and well-wishers took to social media to congratulate the Saudi team on returning to the World Cup for the first time since 2006.
