Khribin named Asia’s best player

Al Hilal forward becomes first Syrian to win the award

Omar Khribin has become the first Syrian to win the AFC Player of the Year award after pipping the UAE’s Omar Abdulrahman, last year’s winner, and Wu Lei of China at a ceremony in Bangkok.

The 23-year-old had a spectacular personal year despite missing out on reaching the World Cup finals with his country and losing the AFC Champions League final with his club Al Hilal.

Khribin also finished top scorer in Asia’s premier club competition with 10 goals.
