Jurgen Klopp has insisted that allowing Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to attend the African Football Player of the Year award ceremony in Ghana on Thursday is a matter of “respect”
The two Liverpool forwards are on the three-man short list for the award, along with Borussia Dortmund and Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
There had been concerns that the duo will only return to Liverpool on Friday, the same days as their club’s third round FA Cup tie against local rivals Everton.
“We sleep in a hotel, they sleep in a plane. That is all the difference,” said Klopp. “We have to show them respect.”
“If it had been a matchday they wouldn’t have asked,” Klopp added.
