Perfect start for Al Jazira at Club World Cup

‘Pride of Abu Dhabi’ progress to quarter-final after overcoming Auckland City in Al Ain

Al Jazira fans were left celebrating at the Hazza Bin Zayed stadium in Al Ain last night after the ‘Pride of Abu Dhabi’ progressed to the second round of the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017 following a 1-0 win against New Zealand’s Auckland City FC. Al Jazira will now go head to head with AFC Champions League winners, Urawa Red Diamonds, in the second round on 9 December at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Sports City.

The UAE champions confirmed their win with first half goal from Brazilian striker Romarinho and were also indebted to goalkeeper Ali Khaseif for string of fine saves throughout the match.

A win against newly crowned AFC Champions League winners Urawa Red Diamonds will see Al Jazira realise a dream clash with Real Madrid in the semi-final

“What a perfect start to the tournament,” one Al Jazira fan said at the final whistle. “This result keeps the dream alive for football fans across the UAE. We send our warmest congratulations to Al Jazira and extend our thanks for kicking-off this historic football celebration in great style. The ‘Pride of Abu Dhabi’ have shown tonight that anything is possible in the FIFA Club World Cup.”
