Talented local football player, Baraa Lulu, is about to embark on the trip of a lifetime thanks to adidas.

Crowned the most valuable player at adidas Tango League Dubai, which has captured the interest of talented young players in the city this month, Baraa will head to the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 to go head-to-head with 22 other players from across the world for a spot in Xabi Alonso’s Tango Squad FC.

Baraa , a Palestinian national who resides in the UAE, impressed a panel of judges made up of adidas VIP’s and local sports media with his flair, swag and creativity to win the highly sought-after MVP title, and secure his place at the Tango League Finals in Russia this July.

“I cannot believe this is happening. Not only did I win the MVP title in a tournament with such amazing talent around me, I’m going to the World Cup,” Abu Dhabi resident Baraa said ahead of his trip to Moscow. “I’ll be practising my skills ahead of Russia to ensure I represent Dubai and the Middle East well, and fight for my place in Xabi’s team. I cannot thank adidas enough for this opportunity – I am excited to meet other ballers from across the world and watch the World Cup Final. This is truly a dream come true for me.”

Adidas Tango League launched for the first time in the Middle East in October 2017 and saw some of the most creative young footballers between the age of 16 and 25 compete for their chance to perform on a global stage. The tournament saw players descend from all corners of the UAE, including Ajman, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, with a team even flying in from Saudi Arabia.

The first event in October saw the winning team meet Real Madrid ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup outing in Abu Dhabi, taking part in an official photoshoot with selected players such as Karim Benzema, Nacho, Lucas Vazquez, and Raphael Varane. The MVP of the first tournament, Yahya Al Ghassani travelled to Russia ahead of the FIFA World Cup TM to compete against MVP’s from around the world. Yahya also took centre stage at the official launch of the adidas Official Match Ball for the FIA World Cup TM, with football icons such as Lionel Messi, Lucas Podolski, Xabi Alonso, Alessandro Del Piero, and Kaka.

The second instalment of Tango League Dubai took place in June, with ‘Gaucho FC’ taking home the silverware and the bragging rights. Baraa Lulu, although not part of the winning side, was given the coveted title of MVP on the night for his impressive performances.

Baraa will now need to impress in Russia and, with the Tango League Final falling alongside the World Cup final, there are bound to be plenty of surprises in store for the 23-year-old. With a place on Tango Squad FC to play for, a team of global players managed by Real Madrid legend and ex-Spanish international Xabi Alonso, he will be hoping his skills are up to scratch when competing on the global stage in Russia this summer.
